Taxis are another form of public transportation in Grand Cayman, albeit an expensive option. You will find plenty of taxis at the airport, in front of the cruise ship terminals in George Town and parked at many of the major resorts along Seven Mile Beach.
One reliable taxi firm is A.A. Transportation Service, Tel: (345) 926 8294.
The Cayman Islands Government owned digital fare calculator CI:GO helps ensure consistent and transparent pricing for taxi fares by setting standard prices for routes. The app allows passengers to plug in their route, the number of passengers and see what the fare should cost in both US and Caymanian dollars. It also allows users to input the number of passengers and how many pieces of luggage a visitor has. There is also a sliding scale of price increases for journeys of five passengers or more. The CI:GO app is available for free in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
An alternative to a taxi, which is aimed mostly at residents, is an app called Island Ride. Their sister company is Majestic Tours and its fleet of cars are used during the day for tourists, but at night from 5pm to 11pm, the cars come available for pick-up and drop off anywhere in the West Bay, Seven Mile Beach and Georgie Town area. You book and pay for your ride through an app, so the pricing is transparent. They charge per vehicle and not per passenger, which is how regular taxis charge. The business is regulated through the Public Transport Unit.
