It is strictly prohibited to text while operating a motor vehicle in the Cayman Islands, and you cannot talk on a mobile phone unless it is hands-free.

In 2023, 391 tickets were issued for drivers using a mobile phone while operating a vehicle.

In section 78 of the Traffic Act (2021 Revision), it states that the ban on mobile telephones whilst driving does not apply, so long as their use, “does not require the pressing of more than one button to make, receive or terminate a telephone call.” You are, however, legally allowed to use your phone while driving if you are calling 911 to report an emergency and it is impractical to pull your vehicle over
