Beginning your housing search can feel daunting. To help mitigate this, we list helpful tips on starting your search, related costs when you rent in Grand Cayman and the best realtors specialising in rental homes and apartments.
Long-Term Rentals (Residents)
Cayman’s rental inventory is slim and demand continues to increase. While you may have luck finding a rental through EcayTrade.com, or mutual connections on Facebook or even Facebook Marketplace, there is no single fully-comprehensive central portal so a good place to start is by contacting a realtor who specialises in rentals. You can also visit the rental listing system on www.cireba.ky/rentals. This is the primary list that real estate rental specialists will work from.

Short Term Rentals
As a result of the growing number of work permits for foreign workers, which reached a new high in November 2024 of 37,678 permits in effect, there is now a real need for short term rental options in Cayman. Even though a few, new developments are making short term rental apartments their core business to meet the demand in the market, the availability of them for tenants is scarce. Between Airbnb and some new well-positioned properties such as Governor's Village and The Grove, there are a handful of places that cater to longer stays for vacation visitors who haven't quite pulled the trigger on buying their own second home here yet, and to savvy, incoming expatriate workers, who want to become familiar with the Island and take their time to find a suitable location before signing a standard 12-month lease agreement on somewhere. By planning ahead both groups should be able to find short term accommodations for terms of one to six months.
Working with a realtor in advance is often a good bet even if remotely from your home country, before you make the move. Even with rentals, agents work for the property owner or landlord and do not charge prospective tenants. In a tenant-saturated local rental market, they will know when something is becoming available and be knowledgeable of the specific locale.
