Artistic swimming may be best known for its grace and precision, but in the Cayman Islands it is also shaping confident, disciplined young people.
Founded in 2016, the artistic swimming programme at Camana Bay Aquatic Club (CBAC) has grown from fewer than ten athletes into Cayman’s only competitive artistic swimming pathway, now supporting more than sixty boys and girls aged five to twenty‑one. The programme consistently represents the Cayman Islands at local, regional and international competitions.
Artistic swimming is one of the world’s most demanding sports, combining strength, endurance, flexibility and breath control with teamwork and synchronisation under pressure. As the club explains, “Artistic swimming builds discipline, confidence and resilience. Young people learn commitment, teamwork, leadership and goal‑setting — skills they carry into education, work and life.”
These values are reflected in recent success on the regional stage, including first‑place results across all entered age categories at the 2026 CARIFTA Games.
For athletes, the impact is deeply personal. National team member Ava Crane, who has been involved in the sport for eight years, says artistic swimming “has brought me countless opportunities for growth, discipline and teamwork” and allowed her to represent the Cayman Islands internationally — experiences that “shaped me not only as an athlete, but as a person.”
Former athlete and now assistant coach Amber Barnes describes the sport as transformative. “Artistic swimming gave me identity, discipline, and a way to represent the Cayman Islands on the world stage,” she says. “Now, as a coach, it’s about passing that pride on and showing young athletes how far they can go.”
CBAC operates as a not‑for‑profit, volunteer‑driven organisation and keeps participation fees below the true cost of delivery. Community and corporate support ensures access is determined by commitment and potential — not financial means — helping young athletes continue to train, compete and represent Cayman with pride.
