Winter is a popular time for residents to take off and head to the mountains for a ski holiday. Ski resorts in North America are renowned for their spectacular scenery, spacious pistes, fantastic facilities and service and a lack of lift queues.
Ski resorts vary from the modern purpose-built resorts of Steamboat Springs and Copper Mountain to the charming, historic mining towns of Telluride and Aspen. Accommodation is generally of a very high standard and most resorts offer a range of accommodation from good value rental apartments to five-star hotels or fully catered private chalets.
In the US, there are four major ski areas: Utah, Colorado, New England and California. Utah is the easiest to get to from Cayman and the resorts of Park City, Snowbird and Deer Valley are popular with residents. Colorado offers a number of excellent resorts including Aspen, Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Telluride and Crested Butte. As of March 2019, Cayman Airways will be flying non-stop to Denver, Colorado.
In Canada, the best skiing can be found in British Colombia and around the Canadian Rockies. Popular resorts in BC are Whistler, Blackcomb, Big White and Kicking Horse. In the Rockies, Banff and Lake Louise are recommended. Visit www.skiresortguide.com for more information.
