The students are the life and soul of the community and the dedicated staff are the fabric, together they strive for the very best for all. The school's academic outcomes are amongst the very highest nationally complemented by a wide ranging enrichment programmes.
‘Wymondham Life’ is their extensive enrichment provision. With over 70 activities a week on offer, in addition to their curriculum trips, they develop their young people with skills and experiences that deepen their learning so that they become well rounded young adults. This is an important aspect of a Wymondham College student’s life, as they prepare their young people to continue through life with the confidence to take opportunities and flourish.
Their boarding element adds a richness to their College culture with day and boarding students belonging to one of their six ‘houses’, each with its own character. The House structure brings about camaraderie as well as a friendly House competitiveness at their annual College competitions such as their Mair Cup music competition, inter house sports, debating and academic achievements to name a few. The friendships formed last a lifetime with many of their alumni returning to retell fond memories of their House fellowship.
The College has a unique heritage in that it was originally a second world war American military hospital, and the school still cherish their remaining Nissen hut which is positioned in the heart of their grounds. Sir Lincoln Ralph founded the College in 1951 and their College song, ‘Floreat Sapientia’ was first sung in 1955 and is still sung with warmth and gusto at their annual Founders Day service, one of many traditions the school, students and staff hold dear.
