The Gow School is a college preparatory boarding and day school for students, grades 6-12, who are dyslexic or have language-based learning disabilities.
By integrating their language remediation program, Reconstructive Language, throughout the curriculum and coupling it with a wealth of supports – from assistive technology to caring faculty – Gow provides not just another opportunity to try again but a real opportunity to succeed. Gow provides an academic, social and emotional fresh start.
Curriculum: The academic program is accredited by
NYSAIS. They are IMSLEC accredited and they meet the International
Dyslexia Association (IDA)'s Knowledge and Practice Standards for
Teachers of Reading. They use a multi-sensory approach to teaching
across all disciplines and offer Executive Function skills to students
who need it.
Facilities: Gow sits on an 100 acre campus, The
Reid Arts Center houses a theater, technology labs, art studios, music
lab and TV studio. The Gow Center, equipped with basketball courts,
tennis courts, large multipurpose room, squash courts, fitness center
and student lounge. Their 10,000 sq. ft. dining hall was completed in
2009. Their newly renovated science and technology center is home to
their robotics lab which includes a Computer Numerical Control machine
and a 3D printer.
Extra-Curricular Activities: The Gow requires
students to play a sport or be involved in an afternoon activity each
semester. Gow offers soccer, golf, tennis, squash, crew, wrestling,
basketball, skiing, lacrosse and much more each year.
Summer Program: The Gow School offers a 5 week
summer program that runs from June 28th – August 1st for the summer of
2020. The Gow School Summer Program is for students who have been
experiencing academic difficulties, or have been diagnosed with dyslexia
or specific learning disabilities. Five weeks of learning and fun for
ages 8-16. Fees for the 5 week boarding progamme will be US$8,400.
