Whether you are bringing in the New Year, celebrating Pirates Week or another special occasion, you will find that fireworks play a big part in Caymanian celebrations.
During December there are many places selling fireworks, however, throughout the year, you can get them from the company listed below:
CAACI Firework Regulations
All firework activity that takes place within 3 nautical miles of the airport or under the approach and departure paths are legally required, under Article 165 of The Air Navigation (Overseas Territories) Order 2013, to coordinate their proposed events with Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands (CAACI) in order to prevent potential threats to aircraft operations.
These 3 nautical miles of the airport or under the approach and departure paths encompasses all the land approximately from Countryside in Savannah to Public Beach on West Bay Road, plus a large area of ocean.
Any fireworks that exceed 200ft above ground level must also be discussed with CAACI, and similarly proposed laser and searchlight events are subject to these regulations.
Fireworks, laser light displays and search lights that fall under these categories must be formally approved in advance by the CAACI and will incur the appropriate fee, as per The Air Navigation (Overseas Territories) Order Fees Regulation 2010.
Forms can be obtained from the CAACI website and must be submitted at least 7 days before the events.
For more information or maps detailing the 3 nautical miles area around the airport, visit the CAACI website or email civil.aviation@caacayman.com.
