About CI Further Education Centre (CIFEC)

CIFEC is committed to inspiring all learners to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding to equip them for success in a competitive and interconnected world. They encourage all members of their community to be socially responsible and contributing citizens, understanding and respecting their shared values and individual differences.

At CIFEC, students can pursue Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) qualifications for core subjects and Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) courses alongside the work-experience programme for two days each week throughout the academic year. Internships and TVET courses can vary depending on their educational and career goals.

Curriculum: CIFEC offers CXC, BTEC, IMI and City & Guilds frameworks at Levels 1-3. Level 2 is the equivalent of GCSEs and Level 3 is the equivalent of AS Levels. These programmes serve as a pathway to further and higher education or the workforce. Students choose the level they take based on their prior skills, experience and qualifications.

Work Experience
• Every TVET program includes an internship with an employer.
• CIFEC partners with 100+ employers.
• Many students gain continued employment after their internship.

Special Programs
• Health Care Aide programme (in partnership with the Health Services Authority - HSA).
• Opportunity to resit CSEC subjects (Level 2):

o Electronic Document Preparation and Management

Students are given the opportunity to re-sit Level 2 Maths, English and Science if they did not pass them in High School. BTEC courses on offer include ICT, Beauty Therapy, Hospitality, Health & Social Care, Art, Creative Media, Work Skills, Business, Construction and Sport & Leisure. CIFEC has two apprenticeship programmes. The PWD/CIFEC apprenticeship allows students to gain qualifications through City & Guilds and also acquire skills in construction and various other public works areas such as plumbing and ac maintenance. The Water sports apprenticeship enables students to become certified divers, learn about the local marine life and develop their customer service skills.
