Cayman has an enviable number of places to eat while overlooking the water. Every style of dining is catered for, from elegant high-end restaurants to more affordable options.
In the South Sound area there is Grand Old House (Tel: (345) 949 9333) which offers classic and international dishes in an old world setting, and Sunset House (Tel: (345) 949 7111) a laid back tiki bar serving casual food and great cocktails.
On the George Town waterfront you will find: Casanova Ristorante (Tel: (345) 949 7633), a lively and family-friendly authentic Italian restaurant that specialises in housemade pasta and pizza; Cayman Cabana (Tel: (345) 949 3080) a very popular bar and restaurant with an expansive oceanfront deck; Le Vele (Tel: (345) 233 8353) an upscale Italian restaurant that specialises in house-made pasta and authentic brick oven pizza; Da Fish Shack (Tel: (345) 947 8126), which serves fresh local fish that is caught daily. Other George Town options include: George Town Yacht Club (Tel: (345) 947 4892) is located at the Barcadere Marina and has a great seafood and bar food menu. Kids will love the swimming pool!
The Seven Mile Beach area has an array of great restaurants with waterfront views: The Wharf (Tel: (345) 949 2231) has been around for 31 years and its talented chefs create mouth-watering international and Caribbean influenced dishes; the Ritz-Carlton (Tel: (345) 943 9000), has three premier waterfront restaurants including Seven, an upscale steakhouse serving Niman Ranch cuts, where you can dine on the terrace with sweeping views of Seven Mile Beach; Bar Jack, a more casual beach bar located right on the beach offering world-class views and Andiamo, which overlooks the resort’s breezy waterways and serves fresh, authentic Italian food. The Beach House (Tel: (345) 945 3800) at The Westin also offers deluxe views of Seven Mile Beach. Other options include LUCA (Tel: (345) 623 4550) which is an upscale restaurant on the beach serving contemporary Italian food. Located at the Kimpton Seafire Resort with sweeping views of Seven Mile Beach, Ave (Tel: (345) 746 4111) offers coastal Mediterranean cuisine that features fresh, local seafood and local produce. Coccoloba, also at the Kimpton, serves a mash-up of local and Mexican cuisine. For budget waterfront dining just off Seven Mile Beach there is The Blue Iguana Grill (Tel: 949 3100) which can be found at the Grand Caymanian Resort in Crystal Harbour.
Camana Bay has six waterfront restaurants including: Mizu Asian Bistro + Bar (Contemporary pan-Asian), Pani Indian Kitchen (a large menu of Indian specialities from across the country) KARoo (popular happy hour bar with tapas), The Waterfront Urban Diner (American-style diner), The Brooklyn Pizza + Pasta (Italian-inspired American favourites) and Agua (waterfront dining featuring the best of Caribbean and Mediterranean cuisine). Abacus (sophisticated farm-to-table cuisine) also in Camana Bay, has a large shaded dining area on The Paseo.
West Bay has an excellent choice of upmarket restaurants: Morgan’s (Tel: (345) 946 7049) is located at the Cayman Islands Yacht Club and has a wonderful seafood menu and a lovely breeze. bàcaro (Tel: (345) 749 4800), also in the Yacht Club, is the country’s only authentic Italian ‘tapas-style’ restaurant and wine bar. Cracked Conch (Tel: (345) 945 5217) and Macabuca, both offer stunning views and excellent alfresco dining. Visit Cracked Conch for white tablecloth service and a cosmopolitan bar. Their signature conch dishes are legendary. Macabuca offers a more laid back bar with casual food and great cocktails. Calypso Grill (Tel: (345) 949 3948) is located in Morgan’s Harbour and offer fantastic menus and panoramic views of the North Sound with a lovely cooling breeze.
In Bodden Town, there is South Coast Bar & Grill (Tel: (345) 947 2517), where diners can enjoy tasty local fare right on the beach. ‘Upstairs’ at Kaibo (Tel: (345) 947 9975) in North Side overlooks the beach and serves upscale cuisine on the sea-view veranda, with a ‘rare rum’ bar indoors, it’s open every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 5.30pm. A water taxi is available upon request and can also take you to the acclaimed Rum Point Club & Restaurant (Tel: (345) 947 9412), home of the Mudslide, beach BBQs and sumptuous seafood dishes. Take a walk after your meal on one of the Island’s longest docks that stretches over the calm, turquoise water.
