Special Needs Education

For adults (aged 18 to 45) with disabilities, there is the Sunrise Adult Training Centre (Tel: (345) 949 3330 or email the Director at kimberly.voaden@gov.ky).
The primary functions of the facility are to provide vocational training and therapeutic programmes for adults with disabilities. The Sunrise Adult Training Centre works to increase their clients' function and independence, and to promote full inclusion within the larger Caymanian community. These goals are achieved through life-skills training, functional academics, occupational therapy, supported workshops in crafts and agriculture, recreational and fitness programmes, plus in-centre vocational training, coupled with community-based internships and supported employment opportunities.
A new Sunrise Adult Training Centre has been in discussion for the past 16 years, with the OBC for this vital project finally having been approved. The project is underway, with an anticipated completion date of 2022.
