About Cayman Kayaks
Cayman Kayaks are the leaders for sustainable bioluminescent tours. Tours are offered on double kayaks as well as a custom designed electric boat. Their guides will lead you through the night, tell you all about this natural phenomenon and the importance of exploring in an environment-friendly manner.
Bioluminescence Night Tour
Their Bioluminescent Tour is one of those “must do” activities that really ought to be on everyone’s vacation wish list.
Bioluminescent Kayak Tour (1½ hours) - Departure time: 7.20pm and 9.30pm
Kayaking is a great way to experience this natural phenomenon as you are just a few inches from the surface allowing your hands, feet and paddles to easily reach in and
play with the bioluminescence. The adventure meets on the North Side of the Island and begins with a slow easy going paddle along a sheltered and shallow sandbar.
Under the night sky on the darkest nights of the month, your guide will use a laser pointer to interpret the night sky, show and tell you all about an upside-down jellyfish, as well as share an abundance of information about bioluminescence. Explore quietly and eco-consciously.
Bioluminescent Electric Boat Tour (1½ hours) - Departure time: 7.20pm and 9.20pm
Aboard Nightshift, an innovative electric boat, you will cruise to the bioluminescent bay beneath a star-studded night sky. The custom-designed observation deck is between the hulls and only 10 inches from the surface of the water. This allows you to easily interact with the bioluminescence. The crew will share a wealth of information about the bioluminescent bay, the night sky and the upside down jellyfish that live in the bay.
Water shoes, swim shorts and a shirt are suggested for this expedition. Whichever eco-friendly tour you choose, both trips by Cayman Kayaks are highly recommended as kind and professional.
Is It Safe to Swim?
Swimmers should wash off all lotions, bug repellents, hair conditioners and deodorants prior to the tour to prevent fouling the water. Swimmers risk being stung by jellyfish and fouling this fragile ecosystem.
What is Bioluminescence?
On land, fireflies are a good example of what it’s like. Bioluminescence is defined as “Life Emitting Light.” It is a common occurrence in the sea. However, to find an area with high concentrations of it on a regular basis is rare and something not to be missed.

Morning Kayak Tour (1½ hours)
A paddle through Cayman’s marine park is a great way to start your vacation. Their knowledgeable guides will lead you through the lush mangrove wetlands, where you will find tiny sea anemones, colourful encrusted sponge, upside-down jellyfish, periwinkle snails, and sea stars.
The tandem (2-person) kayaks are sit-on-top with a solid and comfortable backrest for your journey to the wetlands. The low draft of the kayaks makes them easy to manoeuvre. These kayaks are suitable for all skill levels or lack thereof.
