The Agricultural Show is held annually on Ash Wednesday, this year it falls on Wednesday 5th March 2025.
Early Caymanians supplemented the sea’s bounty by subsistence farming or backyard farming. While subsistence, and organic farming in particular, have experienced a resurgence, the Department of Agriculture in conjunction with the Agricultural Society, have been running the Agriculture Show for over 50 years.
The show is a widely anticipated annual family event and provides farmers with an opportunity to sell their home-grown produce and display their livestock.
In addition to the wide selection of local produce, traditional food and handmade crafts available for sale, children can participate in the many kid-friendly activities such as games, pageants, horseback riding and the petting zoo.
The Agricultural Show is now in its 56th year and it is a testament to the love that the people of these Islands have for farming and looking after their land.
Highlights of the show include:
- Meeting Local Farmers - Meet and talk to local farmers who will tell you all about how they grow their produce and care for their animals. You can also buy the delicious fruits and vegetables. Children will enjoy pony rides as well as meeting the cows, goats, chickens and other livestock.
- Music & Entertainment - Listen to local music, get your face painted, try the mechanical bull and watch local craft demonstrations.
- Try Delicious Local Food - Widen your culinary horizon by trying out wonderful local dishes.
Tip: go early to avoid the heat and traffic.
