About University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI)
The University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) is an institution that offers Associate's, Bachelor's and Master’s degrees; Certificate programmes; Professional Development programmes; Continuing Education, TVET and IT courses; Customised Workforce Training and Business Solutions in Grand Cayman.
The University also offers the Pre-College and Year 12 Dual Entry Programmes.

UCCI has up to 2,000 students each year and around 75 full-time faculty and staff. They also have international partnerships with other universities, so students enjoy various options to study abroad while local students can select from many internship opportunities. They have a very strong STEM programme, thanks in part to the establishment of the Dr Wm Hrudey Observatory in 2012. Their Associate, Bachelor and Master's programmes work well alongside UCCI's strong Performing Arts programme that includes a choir, a dance troupe and a multi-awarded steelpan band, the UCCI Pandemix.
A few years ago, those in the local hotel and restaurant industry recognised that Cayman would benefit from a hospitality school, and so UCCI's School of Hospitality Studies was born. The school offers an internationally accredited hospitality/tourism studies programme that aims to meet existing and future needs of the Islands' tourism industry. UCCI also houses the Island’s only official Microsoft IT Academy and Cisco Networking Academy for the preparation, training and testing of a variety of Microsoft certification exams and Cisco training programs. UCCI also offers a Nursing programme and a post-graduate diploma in Education.
UCCI offers international accreditation for a variety of different courses, ranging from hospitality studies to technological and computer training. They also have international partnerships with other universities, so students can enjoy various options to study abroad and locals can select internship opportunities.
Associate Programmes:
Associate of Applied Science in Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Science or Hospitality Management; Associate of Arts in Primary Education, Business Administration, Literary Studies, Social Studies or Social Work; Associate of Science in Computer Science, Engineering Technology, Mathematics or Sciences. The Associate's Degree takes about 2.5 years at UCCI (with 68 credits), 18 months at ICCI (which is a quarter-term institution) and you will graduate with an Associate’s Degree worth 90 college credits.

BSc in Nursing, BSc in Business Administration with concentrations in Accounting or Management and Minor in Human Resources Management, BSc in Computer Science, BSc in Primary Education, BSc in Social Work; BSc in Social Sciences with concentrations in Applied Psychology, Applied Sociology, Human Resources Management, Public Service Management and Tourism Management.

Community Engagement Programme (CEP):
UCCI now offers their Community Engagement Programme where students can receive up to CI$2,500 per year in financial aid to support tuition, books, fees and other needs. To be eligible for the scholarship, you must: demonstrate potential for civic service leadership in the Cayman Islands, be a first-generation college student, be a Cayman resident for at least one year, and be a new student in your first year of study at UCCI.

UCCI Scholarships for Tertiary Education
There are two main types of scholarships that students may be eligible for at UCCI: merit-based scholarships or needs-based scholarships.
- Merit-based scholarships award students for outstanding credentials. They award high-achieving students who excel in academics, arts and athletics. They do not consider a student’s financial situation.
- Needs-based scholarships award students who have a financial need. Students qualify for needs-based scholarships based on their family’s income and financial constraints.
Both college grants and scholarships are forms of financial aid that students are not required to pay back. Both may require that a student maintain a certain GPA to receive the money each year (if the aid is renewable) and may require an annual application. Below are the scholarships available at UCCI:
Peter N. Thomson Family Foundation
The Peter N. Thomson Family Foundation - University College of the Cayman Islands Scholarship programme is designed to support Caymanians pursuing tertiary education. The scholarship will be awarded to qualifying Caymanians working on associate or bachelor studies at UCCI.
Water Authority Cayman
Water Authority Cayman provides grants of up to $2,500 per year to cover tuition, fees, books and supplies. Open to Caymanian students who can show a documented financial need and who are in a STEM-related course of study beneficial to the Water Authority. Students can be pursuing a certificate or an associate or bachelor’s degree. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required.
CISCO
The UCCI CISCO Netacad Scholarship aims to support the development of residents of the Cayman Islands. The scholarship focuses on providing financial support for students pursuing studies in new IT Academy students interested in CISCO courses, who are driven to improve the Cayman Islands.
RBC Royal Bank
The RBC Scholarship programme provides up to $2,500 per year (renewable) to cover tuition, fees, books and supplies. Open to new Caymanian students looking to pursue an associate degree or a TVET certificate programme at UCCI. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required.
Applicants for this scholarship should be degree-seeking STEM students. Students can receive up to $2,500 annually. Applicants must provide documents showing financial need.
The Community Engagement Programme (CEP)
The Community Engagement Programme (CEP) at the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) is a comprehensive need-based scholarship and retention programme for first-generation college students studying in the Cayman Islands.
Information Technology
This scholarship of up to $2,500 is for new Caymanian students who are pursing degrees in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, software development, C++ programming or PHP programming. Students must also be committed to using their knowledge and skills to improve the Cayman community.
School of Hospitality Studies
The School of Hospitality Studies (SHS) Scholarship provides up to $4,000 for one academic year to cover tuition, fees, books and materials. Open to new Caymanian students looking to pursue a hospitality and tourism certificate programme at UCCI. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required.
UCCI Vocational Training
Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Programs at UCCI offer career and vocational qualifications to students, post-high school and other industry workers while providing an alternative pathway for students whose needs are outside the current curriculum.

TVET Programmes at UCCI are geared towards the completion of specified qualifications jointly with external bodies in the respective disciplines, while providing Core, Preparatory, and Enrichment courses for each student.
Their qualifications will cover four primary levels:
· LEVEL 1 – Directly Supervised Worker: An introduction to the subject area you choose to study, covering routine tasks, and the learning and practical application of basic knowledge.
· LEVEL 2 – Supervised Skilled Worker: Involves carrying out complex work-based duties and gaining useful knowledge and understanding of a subject. These are performed in a simulated or live environment, involving individual responsibility and teamwork.
· LEVEL 3 – Independent Worker: The range of duties are broader with greater complexity. Autonomy and responsibility are also more prevalent at this level, with some control or guidance needed.
· LEVEL 4 – Supervisory staff who are overseeing and mentoring junior staff members
These levels allow UCCI to cater to the needs of students seeking vocational qualifications, or to continue their education in other UCCI programme or transfer to other institutions.
Air Conditioning & Refrigeration - Level 1
Duration: One Year
Course Outline:
Certification Body - National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER)
This course aims to develop trainees the requisite knowledge, work ethic, safety awareness, and skillsets needed to efficiently work on HVAC job sites as an apprentice. Trainees will be able to install, test, and replace basic domestic HVAC electrical components. HVAC applications include but are not limited to fixtures and appliance installation, maintaining, and repairing different types of HVAC parts and air ducts.
Pre-requisite – Core Curriculum
Course Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
1. Perform brazing and /or silver soldering
2. Prepare for oxyacetylene /metal arc welding processes
3. Prepare for pipes and tubing installation
4. Use graphical techniques and perform simple statistical computations
5. Carry out routine servicing of coils, filters, and air conditioner air distribution systems
6. Interpret standard specifications and manuals
7. Accurately calculate and size HVAC systems to satisfy space demand.
8. Identify and troubleshoot basic HVAC electrical components.
Auto Repairs & Maintenance
Duration: One Year
Course Outline
Certification Body – Institute of Motor Industry (IMI) International Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
This course aims to develop participants with the requisite knowledge, work ethic, safety awareness, and skillsets needed to efficiently work in the Automotive Industry as an apprentice or technician. Trainees will be able to complete routine repairs while ensuring that the health and safety practices are observed and carried out. IMI Level 2 course is for individuals who have minimal knowledge of motor vehicle repairs and are keen on learning how to service and repair vehicles in hopes of becoming a Certified Mechanic.
Pre-requisite – Successfully completed level 1 or possess prior knowledge, skills, and competencies
Course Objectives
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
1. Inspect motorized and mechanical equipment; diagnose problems and determine the extent of necessary repairs; perform routine preventive maintenance.
2. Replace or repair faulty parts including wheel bearings, clutches, oil seals, shock absorbers, exhaust systems, steering mechanisms, and related parts and equipment.
3. Diagnose, maintain, and repair electrical system components, ignition systems, alternators, starters, and batteries.
4. Estimate time, materials, and equipment required for jobs assigned; requisition materials as required; maintain inventory of shop supplies.
Electrical Installation - Level 1 Certificate
Duration: One Year
Course Outline:
Certification Body - National Centre for Construction Education and Research (NCCER)
This course aims to develop trainees the requisite knowledge, work ethic, safety awareness, and skillsets needed to efficiently work on electrical installation job sites as an apprentice or wireman. Trainees will be able to follow electrical floor plans (blueprint) and the National Electrical Code (NEC) to install electrical systems in structures such as homes, office/ commercial buildings, and factories. Wiring devices include but are not limited to circuit breaker panels, lightings, switches (single-pole, 3- way switch, and 4-way switches).
Pre-requisite – None
Course Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
1. Demonstrate the ability to read and apply an understanding of the rules and standards governing the National Electrical Code (NEC).
2. Read, interpret and explain electrical drawing the features of electrical drawings.
3. Conduct measurements, install outlets, conduits boxes, switches, and luminaries (fixtures) in residence.
4. Use electrical test instruments, hand, and power tools to carry out installations while observing the Health and Safety protocols
5. Construct lighting circuits to be controlled from different locations.
Level 2 Certificate
Duration: One Year
Course Outline:
Certification Body - National Centre for Construction Education and Research (NCCER)
This course aims to develop and build on the skill sets garnered at level 1 to efficiently work on electrical installation job sites as an apprentice or wireman. Trainees will be able to design, read and interpret schematics and follow the National Electrical Code (NEC) to install electrical systems in structures such as homes, office/ commercial buildings, and factories. As well as working with relays, contactors, motor controls, and AC and DC motors.
Pre-requisite – Successfully completed level 1
Course Objectives
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
1. Develop an understanding of the fundamentals of alternating current (ac).
2. Design, read, interpret, and explain schematics diagrams.
3. Calculate values of electrical quantities.
4. Test, troubleshoot, and install power equipment such as motor and transformer.
5. Plan and install a remote-control switching system for motor operation.
Electro-Technology
As electrical services and technology become more integrated into homes and offices, your specialized skills will be required for installation, maintenance and upgrade.
In this course, you will learn the skills needed to safely undertake basic electro-technology work and solve problems in extra-low voltage single-path and multiple-path DC circuits. You will learn about environmentally sustainable home & work practices, plus how to select and use materials, tools, and components for electrical work.

Plumbing Applications - Level 1
Duration: One Year

This course aims to develop trainees the requisite knowledge, work ethic, safety awareness, and skillsets needed to efficiently work on plumbing job sites as an apprentice. Trainees will be able to follow plumbing drawings (blueprint) and the National Standard Plumbing Code (NSPC) to install plumbing systems in domestic installations, commercial and industrial installations. Plumbing applications include but are not limited to fixtures and appliance installation, maintaining, and repairing different types of pipe systems, waste disposal systems, gas, and air conditioning systems.
Pre-requisite – Core Curriculum

By the end of the course participants will be able to:
1. Demonstrate the ability to read and apply an understanding of the rules and standards governing the National Standard Plumbing Code (NSPC).
2. Read, interpret, and explain plumbing drawings.
3. Perform basic mathematical calculations.
4. Use plumbing hand and power tools to carry out installations while observing the Health and Safety protocols
5. Demonstrate the ability to work with and install a Drain-Waste-Vent System (DWVS).
6. Demonstrate the responsibility of persons working in the plumbing industry.
Level 2
Duration: One Year

This course aims to develop and build on the skill sets garnered at level 1 to efficiently work on plumbing installation job sites as an apprentice or journeyman. Trainees will be able to design, read and interpret schematics and follow the National Standard Plumbing Code (NSPC) to install plumbing systems in structures such as homes, office/ commercial buildings, and factories. As well as performing maintenance and repairs to plumbing systems.
Pre-requisite – Successfully completed level 1
Course Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
1. Install and test DWV piping
2. Design, read, interpret, and explain civil, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings.
3. Calculate pipe offset using the Pythagorean theorem
4. Install different types of plumbing fixtures.
5. Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems.
Construction Technology
Certification Body - National Centre for Construction Education and Research (NCCER)
This curriculum will ground the trainee in the basic knowledge and principles of carpentry, masonry, concrete finishing, electrical work, HVAC, and plumbing. He or she will become skilled in different phases of a project from start to finish. Once completing this course, the trainee will be able to interpret construction drawings; perform quality concrete and brickwork; frame walls, ceilings, and floors of a structure; and install the proper wiring and piping for electrical, and plumbing systems.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Demonstrate the ability to properly mix mortar, install and cut masonry units
2. Demonstrate the safe construction of a floor assembly and stairways.
3. Demonstrate the safe framing of ceilings, walls, and roofs.
