Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd., known locally as "CUC", commenced operations as the only public electric utility in Grand Cayman, the largest of the three Cayman Islands, in May 1966. The Company has been through many challenging and exciting periods but has kept pace with Grand Cayman's rapid development for over 55 years. Today they are considered one of the most reliable and efficient power companies in the Caribbean. The Company currently has an installed generating capacity of 161 megawatts (MW), and a record peak load of 113.5 MW was experienced on August 28, 2019.
The company relies upon diesel generation to produce electricity for Grand Cayman. However, Consumer Owned Renewable Energy (CORE) tariffs allow customers with an interest in environmentally-friendly renewable energy to connect to CUC's distribution grid and receive credits for generated power.
Their over 230 employees are committed to providing a safe and reliable electricity supply to over 30,000 customers.
