About Dr. Melissa Mascaro
Melissa Mascaro, M.D. joined Cayman Clinic in 2016 after completing her fellowship specialty training in Primary Care Sports Medicine at University of Connecticut under the direction of Thomas Trojian M.D., Giselle Aerni, M.D., Robert Arcerio, M.D.,Tom DeBeridino, Michael Joyce, M.D and the late Jeff Anderson M.D. She served as team physician assisting with the coverage of the University of Connecticut Huskies National Championship Women's Basketball Team as well as the UConn Men's Basketball Team. She has also provided coverage for various events including MMA Fighting, the Lake Placid Ironman, NYC Marathon, 2013 Boston Marathon.

She is a consultant physician for USA gymnastics and covers events such as the Kellogg's Tour of Olympic Gymnasts, P & G Championships, AT&T American Cup and other qualifying competitions. She works with multiple local gyms to provide preventative and management of chronic
injuries to recreational and elite athletes alike. She is also a certified ringside physician for USA Boxing and covers Golden Gloves and Diamond Glove events
Dr. Mascaro currently works in her own practice in the United States and is a consultant physician for Seton Hall University and Stevens Institute of Technology
Dr. Mascaro performs diagnostic and theraputic ultrasound guided injections and manages the conservative non operative treatment of sports medicine injuries including concussion management.
She is a certified hyperbaric physician and Medical Director for Restorix Health at Mountainside Hackensack hospital in New Jersey and and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography, American College of Sports Medicine, American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine.
Education
Dr. Mascaro received her 3 years of residency training in Family Medicine at Hackensack Mountainside Family Medicine residency where she served as academic chief resident. Prior to graduating from St Matthew's University School of Medicine, BWI, she received a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from West Virginia University. Dr Mascaro is a former full-scholarship Division 1 gymnast from West Virginia University where she was co captain of her NCAA team
Published Research
She enjoys teaching and is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Seton Hall University and St. Georges School of Medicine. She has published book chapters, and articles in peer-reviewed journals, as well as presented research and given instructional lectures at sports medicine meetings both nationally and internationally. Dr. Mascaro's research interests include the female athlete as well as injury prevention in the adolescent athlete. She spent time at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta working on policy and legislature for Exercise is Medicine as a student.
