About Dr. Christopher Mahfood
Dr. Christopher Mahfood M.B., B.S., D.M. (Psychiatry) is a licensed psychiatrist in the Cayman Islands and Jamaica. He received a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery from the University of the West Indies in 2013 and received a Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatry from the University Hospital of the West Indies in 2020.
Dr. Mahfood has eight years of clinical experience in the field of psychiatry. Post graduation, he was chief resident at the UHWI, while concurrently working as a locum psychiatrist with the Child and Adolescent Clinic at UHWI and Center for HIV/AIDS Research and Education Services (C.H.A.R.E.S.). As an Attending Psychiatrist at the Spanish Town Hospital, St. Catherine, Jamaica, he coordinated both the inpatient and liaison psychiatry services, and treated a wide range of patients: children, adolescents, adults, geriatric patients, and patients with co-morbid medical or surgical complications. In his private practice, he has experience with patients of all ages, and has dealt with numerous forensic cases, completing forensic reports and acting as an expert witness for trials.
He has considerable experience in the treatment of anxiety and depression, child and adolescent psychiatry, psychotherapy, and forensic cases. His clinical approach is holistic; offering psychotherapy if needed and encouraging his patients to address all areas of their health. He promotes balance in diet, physical activity, and behavioral practices.
