About Dr. Joan Latty
Dr. Latty is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Certified Clinical Supervisor with over 30 years’ experience in the area of psychology, assessment, diagnosis, clinical intervention, supervision and counselling and psychological training. She has special interests in trauma, mood disorders, and learning disabilities.
Dr. Latty provides continuous training and supervision to our clinical team, ensuring the highest standard of evidence based, diversity informed clinical practices. She maintains a clinical case load, working specifically in the area of complex trauma, mental illness and family functioning.
Prior to joining The Wellness Centre Dr. Latty held the post of
Director of the Counselling & Psychological Services Centre (CPSC)
at Northern Caribbean University, in Mandeville, Jamaica and prior to
that she was Co-Founder and Coordinator of the Community Counselling and
Restorative Justice Centre, were she developed programmes and regional
protocols relevant to culturally informed community interventions.
Dr.
Latty is currently the Vice-President of the Jamaican Psychological
Society, and serves as Chair of the Ethics Committee. She has extensive
experience with review and oversight of regional psychological research.
She is also a Trainer of Trainers, and Crisis First Responder.
Dr. Latty started her career as a classroom teacher in Jamaica with a specialization in Mathematics, and for many years following her navigation to psychology worked in various educational settings, responsible for psychological assessments and the development of classroom based interventions for students with learning differences.
