Baby & Toddler Activities & Groups

There are a good number of playgroups and other activities for mothers and babies which meet on a weekly basis. These are great places to meet people especially if you are new to Cayman.

South Sound Community Centre Playgroup is very popular and meets every Monday morning between 9.30am and 11.30am at the Community Centre on South Sound, George Town, (except Public Holidays.) All children, from a few days to five years old, are welcome, as long as they are accompanied by a parent or nanny. Numerous toys are available, there is a different craft activity every week and each session ends with a sing along. The cost is CI$8 per session, and includes light refreshments. Email: southsoundplaygroup@gmail.com or call (345) 943 6556.

The National Trust runs their popular Little Explorers Playgroup, an early childhood development and education initiative to encourage families with infants and toddlers to be active participants, not passive recipients, of their environment by providing accessible, natural and quality play experiences. Visit www.littleexplorerscayman.com, email: clubhouse@nationaltrust.org.ky or call (345) 749 1121.

Other excellent ways to meet people are at the weekly storytelling and singalongs held in Camana Bay. On Thursdays at 3pm and Saturdays at 10.30am Books & Books offers toddlers’ storytime for kids up to age seven. A weekly storytelling and singalong is held on Tuesdays at 11am at the Cinema.

For children aged 12 months to five years of age, Motions Unlimited (Tel: (345) 749 8365) offers a Toddlers’ Play Day on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 10.30am-12noon and 2.30pm-4pm, and Saturdays 8.45am- 10.15am for children five years and under. These are hugely popular and cost CI$15 per child, CI$25 for two children, or CI$5 crawlers. Please note that on Saturday mornings the Toddler Play Day is extremely popular and is restricted to children under the age of 6. Children 6 years or older are not allowed to join the session. To make Saturday mornings easier, payment is accepted in cash only (no credit cards, debit cards or cheques), with exact change being preferred so that it keeps the lines to a minimum. The cost is: 1.5 hours – CI$15 (single child) or $25.00 (2 siblings). 1 hour – CI$10.00 (single child) or $15 (2 siblings). For a half hour – CI$5 (single child) or $10 (2 siblings). If you are not the person bringing your children to the gym on Saturdays, please inform your child’s caregiver of these adjustments!

Other fun venues for young children include Lil’ Monkeys, an indoor playground and café for six months-eight year olds, with a padded toddler area, jungle gym and tons of toys for kids and sofas and free coffee for parents! It’s located in Bodden Plaza on Shedden Road (Tel: (345) 949 2580) and Bright Start in 7 Mile Shops (Tel: (345) 949 3017).

The talented music teachers at Jukebox (www.jukebox.ky) and The Studio Cayman (www.thestudiocayman.com) both offer weekly music and sensory classes for children ages 0-3 years. These are lovely, friendly classes for care givers and children alike.

Yoga Sprouts also offers Peace Baby Yoga classes on Thursdays at 11.30am and involves gentle guided movement, massage and song. Suitable for babies aged 3 months to new crawlers.
